Why this one looks like this

Four to a page, because paper costs something

An exit ticket is worth about ninety seconds of a child's time. Giving each one a whole sheet of paper means a class set is thirty sheets, every day, and the workroom notices.

Four to a page makes a class set eight sheets. That is the difference between a routine you keep up and one you quietly drop in October.

The check at the bottom is the actual point

Three boxes: I have got this, almost there, I need another try. It takes a child two seconds and it is the only part you will read tonight.

The answers tell you whether they can do it. The boxes tell you whether they know they can, and those are different problems needing different lessons tomorrow.

The child who is wrong and confident is the one you most need to find.

Cut lines that survive a class set

The dashed lines run edge to edge so you can guillotine a whole stack at once rather than cutting thirty sheets by hand. The name line sits at the top of each ticket, not the bottom, so you can sort them without turning them over.

One way to use them

Sort into three piles at the door

As they hand them in, drop each ticket into one of three piles based on the box they ticked. It takes no longer than collecting them normally.

The middle pile is tomorrow's small group. The bottom pile is a five-minute conversation. The top pile you can read on the drive home or not at all.
