A supply list is usually the first thing a family reads from a new teacher, in August, before anyone has met anyone. It arrives looking like a bill. Without that line, a parent who cannot buy twelve glue sticks this week has to decide whether to tell a stranger about it, and most will not. The child turns up without the folder and nobody ever finds out why.
It is there already because the teachers most likely to need it are the ones with the least time in the second week of August to think of adding it.
You can delete it. It is your page. It is just easier to delete a line than to think of writing one.
What a child needs at her own desk is a different request from what the room needs for everyone. Mixing them into one list makes the whole thing look longer and more expensive than it is.
The shared column is also the one to cut first if the list is getting long.
